On 12 May 2022, the EU GS Project Implementation Team visited the National Center for Teachers’ Professional Development, i.e. Teachers’ House, for another round of Tbilisi public discussions.
The meeting was attended by the heads of all departments of the Teachers’ House and experts in each subject area. The results of the field survey conducted in the summer of 2021 and the policy recommendations developed based on them were reviewed. The trainings conducted throughout Georgia were also summarized and the feedback received from the principals-teachers was evaluated.
The participants, along with the policy document and methodological guide developed under the project, were provided information graphs about the problems and recommendations. The project team explained that the third and final infographic would be created based on the valuable advice given by them and would later be shared at the project concluding conference.
The discussion was quite active and a number of interesting issues were identified, which were not included in the results of the field research. Such were, for example, the issue of gender discrimination in the teaching and learning process, the gap between the generations of teachers and other observations, which will be reflected in the infographics.
It should be noted that the National Center for Teacher Professional Development is a legal entity under the Ministry of Education and Science, which aims to improve the quality of teaching and learning in schools and establish a high standard of professional knowledge and activities by raising the status of the teaching profession.
Consequently, from the very first day of the project implementation, the Teachers’ House has been one of the main partners of the EU GS team and at the same time the target audience. It is important that Professor Nino Gvaramadze, co-author of the EU GS methodological manual and project trainer, is at the same time an expert of the Center, as well as Ms. Nino Petviashvili, who leads the teacher training program at the European University and is responsible for integrating the training materials created within the project.
