On May 2, 2022, in the framework of the EU GS project, a public discussion on the topic of “Challenges of Teaching European Values in Georgian Schools” was held at Akaki Tsereteli State University (ATSU), Kutaisi.
Together with the project implementation team, lecturers as well as students of the Teacher Training Educational Program of ATSU and the representatives of the Lifelong Learning Center of the same university took part in the discussion.
Project Researcher and Fieldwork Coordinator, Professor Giorgi Gobronidze, shared with the audience the results of the field research conducted within the project and the relevant policy recommendations. Professors Lela Abdushelishvili and Giorgi Lekveishvili, project trainers and co-authors of the EU GS methodical manual, introduced the mentioned manual and the study modules produced personally by them.
During the discussion, special emphasis was placed on the importance of deepening cooperation between schools and universities. Kutaisi Akaki Tsereteli State University expressed a desire to cooperate with European University and implement joint projects aimed at advancing European values and standards in Georgian schools.
The meeting was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Pedagogy of the Host University, Professor Mamuli Buchukhishvili and an honorary guest, Dr. Ghassan Khalil, UNICEF Representative in Georgia.
After Kutaisi, the project team will travel to Eastern Georgia and hold next public discussion in the Kakheti region, Telavi, at Telavi State University in particular.
